This Privacy Policy describes how Feath AI ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and discloses information when you use Burd, including the Burd mobile apps, the Burd web app, and the Burd marketing website (collectively, the "Service").

Information we collect

  • Account and profile data: username, email address, display name, avatar and profile fields you provide.
  • Sighting content: species details, notes, media you upload (photos/audio), and posting metadata.
  • Location data: location information you provide or allow us to access (for nearby features and sighting context), including optional coordinates and location labels.
  • Device and notification data: push notification token, device platform, and app-level technical metadata needed to deliver notifications and operate the Service.
  • Usage and analytics data: product analytics (via PostHog) such as screen views, feature usage, and crash-related metadata to improve Burd. Analytics does not include the content of your photos, audio recordings, or private messages.
  • AI-assisted features: when you use photo ID, sound ID, or the species Ask Guide, we process your inputs (images, audio snippets, or questions) to generate predictions or answers. Do not submit sensitive personal information in these features.
  • Safety and moderation data: reports, blocks, moderation actions, and related audit metadata to keep Burd safe and enforce rules.
  • Other usage data: basic app and website interaction data required for functionality, security, and service improvement.

How we use information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • Show your profile and content to other users according to app features.
  • Enable social and community features, notifications, and account support.
  • Operate bird ID, feed, discovery, and nearby functionality.
  • Detect abuse, enforce policies, and maintain platform safety.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect rights and security.

How we share information

We may share information in these limited situations:

  • With other users: profile and sighting information you choose to publish in Burd.
  • With service providers: trusted vendors that help us host, secure, analyze, and operate Burd (for example, infrastructure, analytics such as PostHog, notification delivery, and AI inference providers).
  • For legal/safety reasons: when required by law or to protect users, our rights, or platform integrity.
  • Business changes: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, subject to applicable law.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

We retain personal data for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain safety, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Retention periods vary by data type and account status.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

Age rating and children's privacy

Burd is rated 13+ and is intended for users age 13 and older. Burd includes social media capabilities (such as a community feed, likes, comments, reposts, and public profiles). You must confirm that you meet the minimum age when creating an account. See our Age rating page for details.

Burd is not directed to children under 13 (or older age if required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate action.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal data, and to object to or limit certain processing. You may delete your Burd account at any time from Profile (gear) โ†’ Preferences โ†’ Account โ†’ Delete account in the app. You may also manage some permissions (such as location and notifications) through your device settings. International data transfers

Burd may process and store information in countries other than your own. We take reasonable steps to safeguard personal data in accordance with applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of Burd after changes become effective means the updated policy applies.
